In our April edition:
- We compare two levels of security for access credential key sharing, symmetric vs asymmetric encryption, and evaluate what’s best for enterprises looking to future-proof building access by deploying mobile credentials.
- We look into the rise of mixed-use developments in commercial real estate and how open standard mobile credentials in these dynamic environments could improve user experience, streamline operations, and ensure robust security improvements.
- We provide you with a short guide on how Commercial Real Estate (CRE) management platforms can add value by adding mobile access as a feature via an SDK integration.

Lets dive in!
Symmetric encryption vs. asymmetric encryption for mobile access credentials

Enterprises migrating to NFC mobile access need credentials that are secure, interoperable, and scalable. Traditional credentials relied on symmetric encryption for key sharing security, which requires sharing a single secret key, a process that introduces security risks, vendor lock-in, limited control, and recurring costs. Thanks to new developments and frameworks today, asymmetric encrypted credentials now provide a superior alternative, using public-private key pairs where the private key remains securely on the device and the public key can be freely distributed. This approach enhances security, enables seamless interoperability across systems, eliminates vendor dependency, and allows cost-effective, scalable deployment.
Why the transition to mobile credentials is becoming essential for modern mixed-use commercial buildings

As commercial real estate shifts toward mixed-use environments, legacy access systems relying on physical cards and key fobs are increasingly inefficient and insecure. Managing thousands of occupants, employees, visitors, contractors, and service teams, across multiple areas quickly overwhelms traditional badge-based systems.
Open-standard mobile credentials provide a modern and flexible solution. Mobile credentials allow secure, remote issuance, instant activation, and easy revocation. They integrate with existing access infrastructure, eliminating hardware upgrades and enabling phased deployment.
By combining convenience, enhanced security, and operational flexibility, mobile access empowers property managers to efficiently manage users across complex, mixed-use buildings while reducing administrative overhead and improving tenant experience.
A short guide to mobile access for CRE asset management software

We’ve put together a short guide on how CRE management platforms can integrate with NFC mobile access as a feature by leveraging an SDK integration. This integration allows CRE management platforms to synchronize mobile unlock data with tenant profiles, staffing workflows, and more, improving operational efficiency through automation. Tenants, visitors and contactors can be enrolled with mobile credentials directly through the CRE management platform and mobile credentials are stored within the mobile app if applicable.
